This model was the result of a private development by Sir Harry Ricardo in 1919 for his friend Frank Halford who raced Triumphs. The Triumph factory became aware of the good results he achieved, and commissioned Ricardo to design the Model R, based on the existing SD.

  1. This bike is not a ‘Ricardo’ . It is a Model R, which used Triumph’s commercial version of the engine put together by Major Frank Halford, who happened to work for Ricardo Engineering.
