This Calthorpe machine, on display at the 2013 Bristol Classic Bike Show, was first registered in 1919, but the crankcase is stamped “WAR PRODUCT” and so may be earlier. The JAP engine works on a total loss lubrications with chain drive to a 2-speed Enfield gearbox and then final belt drive. Apparently the gas lights work well!

  1. Was AC 6358, demonstrating the curse of the greedy registration transfer folk. When this bike carried its original number we were able to reunite it with its original log book and trace its first 4 owners starting from Mr C L Baldwin who registered it new on 31/3/1919 in Rugby. Now for many otherwise original bikes that information chain is broken for the sake of a few miserable pounds.
