A superb vintage motorcycle picture sent in by Alan Davison. Alan is researching local history and is writing an article about the social impact of bicycles and motorbikes in the Wooler area of Northumberland. He would very much like to date this picture as accurately as possible. Can anyone out there help?

  1. It’s the Wansbeck Motor Club if that’s any help.

Looking at the bikes, I notice a couple of Triumphs of about 1910 vintage. There is a print of this picture in the cafe opposite the Black Bull in Wooler. Close study of this may reveal more perhaps.

  3. It looks like the local chapter of the Hells Angels.

  4. John Main who was my grandfather is the one sitting on his bike outside the pub door directly in front of the car. His bike was a Rudge Multi from about 1912. He was the proprietor of Main’s cycle shop in Ashington.

  5. PS. The registration of his bike was X2965.
