Unknown 1920s Race Bike Pictures

I obtained this photo in the belief that it depicted the German racing driver Rudolf Caracciola (his name has been handwritten on the back of the photo). During 1922-1924 he competed on an NSU and a Garelli in a handful of German events. I have been informed by motorcycle aficionados that the bike in the centre of the picture is neither an NSU or a Garelli. One suggestion is that it might be a Sunbeam or some other British bike. In light of this information I now have doubts as to whether the rider is in fact Caracciola.

Can anyone shed any light on the type of bike, the identity of the rider or the location/event?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thank you.
Simon.
