Thanks to Thomas Ihle for these pictures of a fascinating German motorcycle.  It is a Megola with a 5 cylinder 640cc rotary engine fitted to the front wheel.  Around 2 – 2,500 of these unusual machines were produced at their factory in Munich between 1921 and 1925.  The engine produced a peak of 14hp at 4800rpm in the final version, and was based on side valves, a single carb, no clutch and a single gear.  Rather scarily, this resulted in a top speed of 140Kmh (88mph) in racing trim!
