A lovely period picture capturing the atmosphere of it all.  Bill Ivy is number 29 on the Matchless, Derek Minter is at number 11, and Dave Croxford is on number 20. Many thanks to Tony May for these pictures.

Seeing this picture of the great Bill Ivy brings to those who view it as to how small this master of motorcycles was. That he set the first 100mph lap of the Isle of Man on a 125cc bike sets him apart. Others may have won World Championships, but they failed to find a place in the public memory as Bill did. Not only was he a great rider, he was damn good fun.
    Still missed.

I rode pillion on the back of Bill Ivy’s bike behind AMC mechanic Dick Coulson between little and great Waltham in Essex. Sitting on the bucket’s hump with my feet outside Dick’s, he wore out the right foot of my brand new Hush Puppies going round Ash Tree corner at some ludicrous speed.
      Bloody marvellous!
I’m 74 now, but still enjoy my Viffer 1200 at even greater ludicrous speeds!
All the best from Orange Australia
