Thanks to John Muir for these picture of his 1961 Trobike, made by the Trojan car company of Croydon.  Apparently they made around 550 or so of these. (info from the Trojan Trust Museum). It’s a 98cc. 2 stroke Clinton engine with a ‘Twist and Go’ centrifugal clutch and does around 30 mph and 90 odd miles to the gallon. It runs on 5” tyres.

  3. Hi, I am trying to restore my Trobike TB962., which I have had over 40 years ! I am searching for the correct engine Clinton Panther 490 and the rear chain/clutch cover/mudguard moulding.
( we could make the moulding if I could borrow or hire one to copy !)
I am quite willing to pay the right sort of money for the correct motor – also need clutch and chain !
Any help or advice welcome !

  4. Centrifugal clutch sizes… 5/8” Bore, 3/16” keyway, 3/8” # 35 ASA American Pitch, 12 tooth required.
CHAIN on Original Trobike… British standards 3/8 “06B” chain 105 links @39” long (1 metre should do with joining link) using 65tooth rear sprocket. Rear sprocket is 130mm ID. 5 csk holes.
CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCHES SHOULD BE AT A RATIO OF 1:6 (ie 12T on engine, 72T on sprocket, or 11T to 66T).
Some help possibly Gerry?. The centrifugal clutch you wont get in the correct pitch as NLA since 1970 ish. Go kart supplies can do the later type for kart chains but then you need to have a rear sprocket made to suit the new pitch and chain. Kart chain is not as strong as 06B. cheers, John
