Thanks to David Marchington for these pictures.

“The bike was first registered on 16th to have been first used as a display model until the 15th March 1958 when it was sold to a Mr. Robert Thompson of Gorton, Manchester, with whom it stayed with for three adress changes (Gorton, Marple Bridge nr. Stockport and Romiley in Cheshire) until 26th July 1961 when it passed to his son, Robert Thompson Jnr., again of Romiley. It was finally sold however on 30th June 1965 to John Allison who owned it up until 5th September 1972 when it was passed onto its 5th owner James Bowers of Hyde, Cheshire. Finally on 5th July 1976 my grandad, Frank Marchington, bought it in the ’decline of the great British bikes’ for £25! My Dad ran it while in Oxford University Air Squadron and the University between 1976 and ’78 until it was parked up, in totally originally condition, right up to October last year when it was passed onto me. Within the same month, for the first time in 31 years, it was started and was ridden trouble free around the fields. It took only took a few hours of tinkering and tidying up until it struck into life, even with the original spark plugs (after a thorough clan though!) and nearly 32,000 miles on the clock! As you can see from the pictures, it is still in orginal, unrestored condition but tidy. I have no intention of making it look new again: how many Thunderbirds at rallies now are restored with all new parts on them? As time goes on, there won’t be many bikes with the parts on them that were used in its working life and came out of the Meriden Works! This is also the only example I’ve seen with a orignal faring which was fitted, I think, by John Allison!”
