I bought this bike in 1974 and have ridden it off and on since then, after the first restoration. She was getting a bit ugly last year so it was back to the Whitworth spanners and a bit of paint. I never intended concourse and I achieved a nice reliable, even pretty ride. I believe I am the third owner after the South Australian Police.

  1. Hi,

Please contact me as I would love to find out more about this bike. I have pictures of my grandfather on one of these in the South Australian police force. Cheers,

    Josh.

    • Hi Josh,

Sorry this took so long, I have not looked at this site for three years or more. I am not this rude normally. I bought the bike from a bloke I worked with in Adelaide in 1974. He bought it from his uncle, who had purchased it from the SA police. I contacted the SA police and they happily told me to “bother someone else”. The picture shows the original SU carburettor, but after leaving me stranded 20 km out of town, I rebuilt an old monobloc and this works very well. Just never play with the float level or put a float extension on the carb. Apart from the carb, the motor is pretty standard, apart from big end bearing shells replacing the original white metal.

Anyhow enough boring detail. If you reply, please use my email address mick.davey@ozonline.com.au.

      Cheers, Mick
