image

A Royal Enfield Royal Enfield side valve 350cc WD/C model – one of 2,000 supplied under contract C6125 in 1940.   The picture was taken in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The soldier is from a Welsh regiment and the photograph was taken a few days before D-Day. Tthe owner of this picture has another photograph of his two mates. Two of the three were killed in action in France a few days or weeks later. He doesn’t know which one of the three survived. The person who give the current owner this photograph was only about 8 or 9 years old at the time. He said the army were camped across the road from his house for months and these three came to his house quite often for tea. He got up one morning and the whole camp was gone, the family got word a few weeks later of their deaths.
