1929 AJS S5 Pictures

Attached are two photos of my Dad sitting astride his AJS, taken off duty in 1941, whilst he was serving with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry at Fort Lahore on the North-West Frontier. I’m not a motorcycle enthusiast, but having ploughed through the many images available on the Web, I cannot find a single model which even closely resembles this one and I wondered if you or any of your members could enlighten me.

Many thanks!

And thanks to the guys in the Forum who identified this as a 1929 AJS S5. Here are their comments:

Looks close enough to an S5 but with homemade high exhaust. The earlier forks make it around ’29? Just guessing.

And 29 had the purple tank panel, which this appears to have.
(if you can imagine purple in B&W).
