  1. Hi,
    The bike in the photo has some Chater Lea characteristics from the early 20′s
    One being the shallow wedge tank fitted between the frame tubes?
    The front fork is also similar to CL
    The engine appears to be a sv Blackburne, with outboard drive sprocket
    Brooks saddle with the suspension springs hung from the frame is another CL
    As usual the photo was of the people and not the bike which makes the puzzle a lot harder
    The pillions feet blocking out the rear hub and stand do not help either,
    CL used alloy not painted primary and secondary chainguards, so this is another pointer
    I would very much like to examine a high resolution copy of this photo to study further

    maybe a little late answer. The bike is a 500ccm Gnome Rhone Type D Grand Sport.

    there ar about 10-15 motorcycles of this type know in collector scene France and Germany. I have one Type C with belt drive and one Type D2 with OHV engine.
