That is a FANTASTIC period photo ! It’s a pity they don’t look like that now. That’s a real rig and not an imitation of the Space Shuttle.

  2. Lovely photo, and so period. I was actually there.
That ‘type’ of sidecar developed largely by the 60′s BMW crews was a truly beautiful thing.
In various paint schemes, they were stunning looking devices. So low, so incredibly fast and..
In the main, UK sidecar crews were the life and soul of the UK paddock. They shared around spares and stuff so much more than the solo guys.. and they had the the best BBQ’s and parties. Wonderful days.
However, the Germans used to come over and party they did not. Distant, stand-offish, aloof etc. They weren’t too keen on photo’s either. But that all changed when Helmut Fath arrived and Siggi Schauzu [ I can't remember how to spell it.. sideways Siggi.. sorry..!].
I actually sat on Fath’s URS at Brands whilst he told me all about it. His English wasn’t the best.. but a hell of a lot better than my non-German.!
My all time favourites were the Swiss.. Florian Camathias.. who was lovely, and our own Chris Vincent, who was truly a giant killer and should, in a fairer world have been a world champion. He was that good.. on a BSA twin, in a sport dominated by BMW’s who were in another league altogether.
    Happy days.
    Regards
    WF
