George Buchan is he still alive? saw him when he journeyed down from Tomatin in Scotland to Oulton Park, can you imagine that in the 60′s before motorways, and yes he won usually and his transporter… a Morris 1000 van

  2. Knew George well he rode Allan smiths nortons from Alford. My friend went to see him some years ago and he was not happy about his condition, would sure like to hear more. I have been in the USA for 50 yrs

    • Remember Geordie well, he raced all the Scottish venues in the Sixties, Gask, Kirkcaldy, Errol and Chaterhall. Plus south of the border Oulton Park, Caldwell, Scarborough and Silloth. Geordie was always in the leaders pack then, one hard rider. Like Bill Lawson I have been in the USA for close to 50 years, and have lost most of the friends I raced with, Roy Graham and Dennis Gallagher. The one event that I remember George at was when he dropped his 350 Manx at the corner before the harbour in Port Stewart during the North West 500, it went on fire and not much was left of the bike, frame, forks and wheels! ’66 I think. He also raced in the Manx GP in the Sixties ’64, ’65 for sure.

Jim/Bill, Geordie is doing well and is still interested in racing. My father reunited him with the Smith 500 machine a few years ago. I have seen a picture of the 350 after it set on fire at the NW200, I dont think there was anything left!

As kid in the mid to late 70’s Being related to Jack Gow
I would travel with Jack and his Dad (Andy) To most of
the Scottish Road Races, I remember one race quite vividly
At Gask when both Jack Gow and George clashed in the unlimited
Race they went head to toe for the entire race , not sure some
54 years later who won but it was one of those races that had every one
Gasping as they diced with one and other. Another chap who could
Man handle those Norton’s was Dave Reid he to rod in the

  3. I was Vic Allan’s mech from schooldays and have been developing high performance
Engines ever since, Allan Smith was just up the road in Alford.
Jock smith used to test the Manx down as far as skene, we would bike down to the road and miss him.
I intended to spend September in Scotland but got covided out.
If Geordie is still in tomatin or wherever I would like him,
What made me look for him I saw a photo of me and him as spare pricks at Robbie Allan’s wedding
We had some fun then,he could sure ride a Manx to the max.always bad luck at IOM
Those were the days, and we were all trying to burn them as fast as possible!!
