Hi!

Here are some pics of my lovely original 1978 CX500. The bike is in unrestored condition with only 6500 miles since new. I’m the third owner and the full history is known and documented. The magazines called it the ‘Marmite bike’ – love it or hate it, but you just have to love this one. Isn’t she gorgeous :-)?

Sorry, no… I don’t think it is gorgeous at all! I can’t understand what this bike is doing on this website! Maybe it is ME that is odd!

Ha, thank goodness we aren’t all the same…life would be very boring indeed! As a rule, anything pre-1985 can get on the site although an occasional more modern one does sneak on every now and again. Nigel

    • Well Peter, perhaps these bikes are plentifull over in UK, but here in Scandinavia there are hardly any. That makes them special for me at least :-). They are rarer than CBX1000′s and other 70′s era bikes over here. They were certainly a milestone in motorcycle technology, being the first of the v-twin watercooled jap bikes and had many other innovations as well, taken for granted today perhaps.

Also in the UK the CX500′s have a stigmatized image as scruffy dispatch mounts. Here there are no dispatch riders, and the CX did not aquire such a utilitary image.

      • Hi,just a word for all muppets slagging the cx 500, i bought one new in 1980, all my mates had the usual stuff at the time ,cb550 gs550 rd400 xs 500, the truth is the cx would piss all over them, and that includes some bigger stuff, never listen to fannies that never had one, or fuds that were not there at the time, if you ride one ,then you will see how much better it was than the shit at the time, rd 400 spends more time in a garage getting pistons and rings ,25mpg when screwin it,bag o shite,,what, cheers the taminator.

      • Hi Michael, Also the first mass produced bike with Tubeless tyres.

Dude, that is one nice bike! Picking up mine next weekend, exact same year, model and color :)

And no, you do not have to be old or odd to enjoy the sound, feel and looks of a bike that was made when bikes were still bikes, you just have to have love for the idea, riding!

I’m 21 years old and have a love for classics, I had a BMW R100RT (Lovely cruiser), ’82GPZ750, and now a ’81 KZ750 which I’m rebuilding and restoring, and the CX500 will add to my little collection.

And yes, she is gorgeous :)
