Many thanks to David Baum for these lovely old pictures of his relatives on an early Harley Davidson. Anyone know the model?

  1. Nice photos. Interestingly they show two different Harley-Davidsons – both very sought-after these days.
    Photo 1 (with the house in the background) is a 1915 989cc twin, with the new three speed gearbox, probably a Model 11F. In 1916 the petrol tank became more rounded, and there were only small changes into the mid 1920s.
    The bike in Photo 2 is earlier: I think it’s the first chain-drive model from Harley, the Model X8E of 1912. Again a 989cc twin, but single speed with a clutch in the rear hub.
