The RC 162 was a very important machine to Honda being the first Honda to win a grand Prix with a Japanese rider when Kunimitsu Takahashi won the German 250cc GP, July 24, 1961 at Hockenheimring. This Honda RC162 replica was built in 2002. The cycle parts are of the era with some components being race Honda race parts, tank, foot pegs and brake and gear levers, the bodywork is Honda Revival. The frame is by Tigcraft and a replica of the 1961 RC161 race frame. There are a few original RC162, 163 and 164 bikes in hands of owners other than the factory, two in particular residing in Ireland. As the engines in these bikes are so fragile the owners have followed the same route the factory and use a 1989 CBR250 engine for demonstration events. The CBR motor produces the same horsepower at an identical RPM as the factory engine, 45hp @14,500. The use of Kehin 28mm flat slide carburetors make the engine run perfectly and allows the rider to run the bike at full throttle without risk of damage.
