Many thanks to Frank DEan for these pictures of his intersting bike:

The bike was purchased 2 weeks ago as part exchange for my 1928 Scott, I drove to meet the buyer from home to a few hours north of Adelaide in South Australia, just a short trip of 1500 klm, the buyer had to travel 2,300 klm from Perth !!!!, it is a good job we did the deal when we did as many parts of the road I went on are now flooded after a couple of weeks of big rains

The bike was purchased by the previous owner a couple of years ago from a deceased estate, it appears the owner died before finishing it, so someone else put it together but very roughly. The Scott buyer had a lot of old bikes so this was put in the shed to be done at a later date, he offered me this bike, a 350 bigport AJS, a J model Harley & a couple of others but this bike took my eye

The old owner was building it up as a Brooklands replica but did not finish it after doing a lot of work.  It was a 1930 R8 AJS 500 and  since getting it, the motor has been stripped & rebuilt, and the original front brake has just been fitted to the 21inch front rim. It is fitted with a 4 speed Albion gearbox but only has a 3 speed handchange gate – next weeks fix! I need to make chain guards, the magneto is away getting fixed, by then it should be well on the way to be a goer.
