Jack Williams' Trophies |
||
|
Just look at these! These were won by Jack Williams, the pre-war TT star. One of motorcycle sport's great all-rounders of the 1930s and 1940s, Jack Williams competed in trials, scrambles and road racing. He took part in the first Manx Grand Prix in 1930 (the event had been called the Amateur TT until then), finishing in a creditable 7th place in the Senior event on a Norton, before switching to the TT the following year, his best result in that event being 5th place in the 1935 Lightweight race riding a Rudge. But it was in trials that Jack Williams excelled; as early as 1929 he formed part of Britain's ISDT squad, helping secure the Manufacturers' Team Prize for Rudge, which was merely the start of a remarkable run of successes in that most arduous event that continued after he switched to Norton. And of course, one of of Jack's other great achievements was to bring Peter Williams in to the world!! Thanks to Howard Burrows for sending me the picture. |
