1946 IMZ M75 Racer

In 1940, the Russian's were testing 15 different brands of military motorcycles in order to choose a standard model for their troops. After heavy testing, they decided to copy the german Bmw R71.(750 cc side valve boxer) Some details were changed and so the M72 was born.Production started in 1941 in Moskva and later on in Irbit.(Ural plant) In November 1942, the factory planned a head-valve version of the M72,using cilinder heads of the Bmw R51.Although engine power was increased from 22hp to 28hp, this model never went into production due to high production costs. In 1946 further development was done using the heads of the bmw R75. This resulted in the M75, a very succesfull race machine producing 40hp and top speed on to 170 km/h. The M75 was the basic for other later race models such as the M75M and the M80. The bike showed here is an early '46 model (frame nr. 006) still with the kick starter. On later models this item was dropped. Only 10 ex. built, is this the last survivor ready to race
