1938 Bianchi 500 DOHC |
||
| Many
thanks to Franco Sinesio of Italy for this picture and information. It is
a 1964 Bianchi GP 500 racer. After the increase in capacity from 250cc to
350cc and finally to 450cc, Lino Tonti designed this "definitive"
full capacity twin 500 bike with a completely new frame, engine, forks,
and brakes etc. For instance the carburetors are made by Dell'Orto with
a custom casting, and the brakes also were made specifically for this model
only! It has desmodromic carburetors controls, with a double cable
for opening and closing the throttle. It also has an eccentric final
chain tensioner. It was one of the most sophisticated bikes of its time,
but, unfortunately, the Bianchi motorcycles company died soon after and
they retired from competitions. This one remain "one of a kind". |
